Writing Task-1

You have just read an article in an international travel magazine which contained some information about your town that is not correct

Write a letter to the editor of the magazine. In your letter

– Correct the information in the article

– Explain why it is important for the magazine to give correct information

– suggest what the magazine should do about this situation

Dear Sir or Madam

I am a long-standing reader of your magazine, “The Travelers." I am writing this letter mainly to draw your immediate attention and correct the wrong information published about my city, Dhaka, on the October 2023 monthly edition, page number 21, under the heading "An exciting visit to Dhaka."

While reading the aforesaid article (An exciting visit to Dhaka), I found some incorrect information about the historic structure of my city, Dhaka, called the Lalbagh Fort. It has been written in the article that the Lalbagh Fort had been established in 1685. Moreover, it was also mentioned in the article that the Lalbagh Fort had been built during the regime (rule) of the great Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. According to the very reliable historical records, this historic site was built in 1678 by the order of the then Subahdar (Governor) of Bengal, Muhammad Azam Shah. Actually, Subahdar Muhammad Azam Shah was the third son of mighty Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. So, it indicates that the Lalbagh Fort was founded during the reign of Emperor Aurangzeb.

I think you need to publish a correction and an apology in next month’s magazine. At the same time, I would like to request you to ensure that all factual information is properly checked before publication.

Yours sincerely

Nasir Islam

Writing Task-2

Some people think it’s better to choose friends who always have the same opinion as them. Others believe it’s good to have friends who sometimes disagree with them.

Discuss both these views and give your opinion.

It is frequently argued that it is proper to have friends with the same mentality, while others say it is beneficial if they have different outlooks. I believe that the difference of opinion is a crucial factor in achieving overall growth. The following essay will discuss both sides of the argument and draw a coherent conclusion.

Some people say that friends who have similar views normally do not have major conflicts with one another. It happens because they do not go into an argument whenever they discuss a topic. This mentality helps them to build a robust relationship in their friendship. For example, Cambridge University found in a recent survey that 40% of friends who have similar thinking never went into an argument during discussion time during lectures. Despite this, these people are unaware of the delicate nature of the relationship in the long term.

Side by side, numerous people believe that different opinions among friends can help those friends to raise their intellectual levels. During the conversation, some friends will express their visions and outlooks, and their other friends will try to find the discrepancies and lapses in their ideas. Then the opponents can refute the argument. These arguments and debates will surely enable the friends to rethink their ideas and develop their amicable relationship more. Therefore, I firmly believe that people should make friends who have a different way of thinking than their own for the overall development of society.

In conclusion, although friends who have the same thinking can avoid conflicts to make a good relationship, to increase intelligence, friends must have different opinions on the same topic for the overall growth of their friendship.
