Cambridge IELTS Book-16, Writing Test-4 (Academic)
Writing Task-2
In the future, all cars, buses and trucks will be driverless. The only people travelling inside these vehicles will be passengers.
Do you think the advantages of driver-less vehicles outweigh the disadvantages?
I believe that in the future, driverless vehicles, like cars, buses, and trucks, will be common. In that case, passengers will sit inside the transport while computers control the driving. There are both advantages and disadvantages to this technology.
One of the main advantages is safety. Most car accidents happen because of human mistakes, such as overspeeding or not paying attention to road safety. Driverless vehicles can follow traffic rules perfectly and react quickly to avoid unexpected dangers, which can reduce accidents. Another benefit is convenience. People can relax, read, or even sleep during long trips while traveling by driverless transports. This technology can also help several people who cannot drive, like the elderly, disabled, etc. So, driverless transportation will benefit all types of people by providing them with more freedom to travel.
However, there are some disadvantages to driverless vehicle technologies. One concern is job loss. Many people work as drivers, such as truckers, taxi drivers, and bus drivers. If all vehicles become driverless, these people might lose their jobs. At the same time, this technology may not always be reliable. If there is a problem with the computer system, it can cause accidents. Some people also worry about hacking, where criminals may take control of the vehicle’s system.
In conclusion, driverless vehicles have both good and bad sides. They can make travel safer and more convenient but may also cause job loss and have technology risks. Overall, the advantages seem to outweigh the disadvantages because they can greatly improve road safety and make life easier for numerous people. If this technology is implemented carefully with proper planning, it will be possible to solve all the problems related to this technology. If done wisely, the future of driverless vehicles will certainly be bright shortly.
